Winter 2019 projects (part two)

Also at the beginning of 2019, I wrote a song for my Dad’s wife Lindsay Dowding’s book, ‘CHARLIE THE HORSE, OWL and the Planning Application’.
The song is called ‘After All’, which is also maybe a reference to my Dad and Lindsay deciding to move to Shetland around the same time (which has now happened..!).
The story is about the animals in Spooner Row working together to stop a planning application on a field in the village. My song, I guess, talks about one thing that both the animals and the humans need, which is water..
I enjoyed writing the song on piano, which in the verse is in 7/8 and 5/8. I have recorded the song, and it will be available on CD and download on Bandcamp from the 17th April, which is when the book is published, with a book launch at The Boars pub in Spooner Row that afternoon.
I will also be performing the song at ClerkenwellARTSlab with my group ALATI, on April 29th, as a launch for the song, and we’ll have books and CDs available. I’ll also be performing the song at the Spooner Row launch, with Rob Milne on clarinet.
The book has illustrations by Lynn Rutherford, one of Lindsay’s best friends from Norfolk, and half of the proceeds from the book will go to the Stroke Unit at the Norwich and Norfolk Hospital.
The song will be available on Bandcamp on CD and download here:
